First Exercise

Leapin's Image      The Transparent Leapin Image

Second Exercise

The Original Card Picture

Picture reduced to 256 colors

Picture reduced to 216 colors.

Picture reduced to 100 colors

Picture reduced to 80 colors

Picture reduced to 16 colors

I think the Original Picture with 16 Million Colors and the one with 256 colors are too large(both 25KB). 216 Color version is still large to display on a web site, since it's 20kb. The 16 Color Version is definitely out of the question - it looks awful. There aren't any major differences between the 80 color and the 100 color version of the picture, but the file size difference isn't that great either(only 2kb). Because of this, my vote goes to the 100-color version.

Third Exercise

The Original Picture

The feathered selection

The weird selection

Fourth Exercise

The Original Picture

Selection using "Remove Black Matte"

Selection using Contract and Delete

OK, I know I should have made the last two images transparent, but I forgot. I attempted doing it, but it looked really bad:

Fifth Exercise

For this exercise, I drew a quick logo for my study group at the Writing for Fun & Profit class.
As you can see, as the colors are decreased, the gradient starts to look really bad. The last two images are awful looking. If I were to choose one of these images to use for a web site, I would choose the second one on the left column. The file size is acceptable(13kb), and the gradient doesn't look THAT bad.

Sixth Exercise

No Compression

20% Compression

35% Compression

50% Compression

70% Compression

90% Compression

I used the Ape picture from Lesson One for this exercise. The last one looks really bad. But there aren't any major differences between the other apes. So, I would choose the one with 70% compression. It's small(3kb) and it looks OK.

Seventh Exercise

I made a simple JPG, converted it to a GIF and then set the palette transparency to the background color.
